Precision and Power Behind the Inquisitor Series

Among all the Golden Catch rod series, the Inquisitor range holds a special place. Today, I want to focus on the long, distance-oriented models in this line — rods whose true element is jig fishing at long range.
If you’re already familiar with the Inquisitor lineup, you’ll know that it includes several types of rods — twitching, boat-universal, and travel versions. Each was designed for specific fishing conditions, but the longer models were created with one goal in mind: maximum casting distance and precise lure control even at great range.
Shore Models – Built for Distance and Sensitivity
I include five models in the shore-fishing category. The shortest measures 2.51 m (8'2"), while the longest reaches 2.89 m (9'6"). All Inquisitor blanks are made from Japanese Mitsubishi carbon, which makes them exceptionally sensitive, lightweight, and powerful.
They come equipped with K-series guides with SIG inserts and VSS reel seats with TVSK locking nuts. Each rod has a fast jig action, providing precise lure presentation and excellent feedback during retrieve.
Golden Catch Inquisitor INS-832M – Balanced Power for Long Sessions
The first model I’d like to highlight is the INS-832M. With a length of 2.51 m (8'2"), a casting weight of 6–24 g (0.21–0.85 oz), and a total weight of just 130 g, this rod strikes a perfect balance. It allows for long fishing sessions without fatigue, delivering maximum enjoyment from every cast and strike.
The powerful butt section provides impressive leverage when fighting fish, letting you play them confidently and firmly without losing control.
Golden Catch Inquisitor INS-842ML – Lightweight Precision with Extra Reserve
Next up is the INS-842ML, measuring 2.54 m (8'4") with a casting weight of 4–16 g (0.14–0.56 oz) and a total weight of 131 g. This is a shore-based medium-light jig rod with a wide test range and reinforced backbone. The stated test covers the weight of the jig head plus a 2–3.5-inch lure.
Despite its solid power reserve, the 842ML performs beautifully in the lower test range — around 4–6 g — allowing for precise jig animation and confident hook-sets. Its high restraining potential helps prevent fish from diving into snags or vegetation.
It’s also worth noting that the 842ML is successfully used by competition anglers, which once again confirms its high performance level at a very accessible price.
Golden Catch Inquisitor INS-862ML – The Versatile Long-Casting Performer
At 2.59 m (8'6") and weighing 134 g, the INS-862ML has a casting range of 5–21 g (0.17–0.74 oz). This model stands out for its impressive long-range casting across a wide test range, losing only a bit of precision at the very top end.
Despite its extra power—necessary for confidently fighting larger fish and working heavier lures near the upper limit—the rod remains well-balanced and forgiving. It is not overly stiff, and it resists line breakage or lure snap-offs during hook-sets.
In comfortable fishing conditions, it handles even weights at the lower test range with ease. Its specialised jig action ensures smooth and effective animation of soft baits.
Speaking personally, this is the rod I use most often. It’s incredibly versatile, consistently performing at 100% and sometimes replacing several other rods in my setup.
Golden Catch Inquisitor INS-862MH – Power, Precision, and Control
Another model in the 2.59 m (8'6") length is the INS-862MH, with a casting weight of 7–28 g (0.25–0.99 oz) and a total weight of 134 g. This is one of the most successful rods in the entire series — a true shore-based medium-heavy jigging rod that meets every standard of its class.
It combines exceptional sensitivity, long-distance casting, enhanced power, and crisp lure control throughout its test range. The rod excels in hooking fish even when lure contact is weak, for instance, in strong crosswinds, and allows anglers to pull trophies out of dense snags without fear.
The test rating is based on a jig setup with a 3–4 inch soft lure, making the 862MH a perfect option for medium and large rivers with moderate to strong currents.
Golden Catch Inquisitor INS-962H – Maximum Distance and Strength
The final and most powerful model in the shore lineup is the INS-962H. At 2.89 m (9'6"), this rod is built for asp and jig fishing on large bodies of water, where extra-long casting distances and deep presentations are essential.
It easily handles larger lures and heavy rigs, loading smoothly at the lower test range and propelling jigs incredible distances from the mid-range upward. The blank delivers a strong hook-set and holds its composure against trophy-sized predators.
This is the ultimate tool for anglers who demand reach, strength, and precision in one rod.
